The Mothers’ Prayer

At my Jesuit school, i grew up saying the Lord’s Prayer every day.

Normally when i sit in a church it comes up.

In my travels in Latin America, i have sat in many churches and found that it was not coming up fully. Churches are enormous and make me feel small, so the Ravidas prayer was not coming up either.

I found myself reciting a new, parallel version of the Lord’s Prayer — The Mothers’ Prayer.

Blessings.

The Mothers’ Prayer

Our Mothers who live on earth,
revealed be your names.
Your love open closed hearts.
Your home come alive,
making heaven on earth again.
Give us this day our daily task,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we learn to heal the wounds we have done.
Teach us restraint, and lead us to grace,
before delivering us into abundance.
For your sacrifices we are eternally grateful,
and we remain your children,
seeking your love forever.
